The chocolate in the stock photo above has come along way from the original carnation of chocolate. Chocolate, or cocoa, comes from combining the Maynan terms "choco" (foam) and "atl" (water).
The Mayans planted the first known cocoa plant in the Yucatan around 600 A.D, where they used the food as money and for a drink called "xocoatl". Christopher Columbus first introduced cocoa to Europe and since then chocolate has flourished throughout the world.
